"Thank you STY for your togetherness so far, you remain a part of the history of the transformation of Indonesian football," he wrote on the Instagram account @kairulanwar_1. The upload is suspected of being a form of farewell to Shin Tae-yong.

The manager of the Indonesian national team, Sumardji, was reluctant to answer regarding the certainty of STY's future who will no longer coach the Garuda squad until he will be replaced. He directed Tempo to contact the member of the PSSI Executive Committee (Exco PSSI) Arya Sinulingga.

"Ask Arya," said Sumardji in response to Tempo's confirmation efforts on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Three minutes later, he directed to ask for confirmation from Kairul Anwar who had previously uploaded a statement of gratitude for Shin Tae-yong which then went viral on X and Instagram. "It's better to just ask Mr. Hairul."

PSSI Exco member Arya Sinuligga has not responded to questions submitted via the messaging application. PSSI Secretary Yunus Nusi and Indonesian national team assistant coach Nova Arianto have also not responded to Tempo's confirmation efforts.

Quoted from Antara, previously, Nova responded to news from Italian media Tuttosport which said that PSSI led by Erick Thohir would replace Shin Tae-yong with a European coach.

The media said that Erick wanted to replace Shin Tae-yong from the Indonesian coach's seat before the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone were played. The nearest schedule, the Garuda squad will face Australia in an away match and Bahrain at home in March.

Erick's plan was included in the news titled "Thohir Ingin Piala Dunia: Pelatih Eropa untuk Indonesia" (Thohir Wants World Cup: European Coach for Indonesia) written on December 30, 2024. Tuttosport believes that the South Korean coach's strategy of relying on physical strength is no longer satisfactory with the Garuda team's game which is filled with many players who play in European competitions.

"Honestly, I don't know (about it) either," said Nova in Jakarta on Friday, January 3, 2025.

Nova said that, until now, there has been no discussion about plans to change coaches in the Indonesian national team. "Maybe you can ask directly, if there is no discussion within the team," said the 45-year-old coach who also leads the U-17 national team.
